The St. Louis Blues head into Winnipeg look to improve their disappointing road record as they take on the Winnipeg Jets on Friday.
The Blues look to shake out of their ugly skid against the Western Conference as they take on a Jets side that is a game under the .500 mark but is still challenging for a playoff spot and has a ton of talent in the offensive zone. St. Louis parted ways with Kevin Shattenkirk as he was sent to the Washington Capitals on Wednesday and while the Blues still have a boat load of talent they seem as though they are moving towards a rebuild as Shattenkirk was a huge part of their defensive core and will surely be missed on the blue line. St. Louis has dropped four of their last five Friday night games and have lost four in a row and while Winnipeg has lost six of their last seven at the MTS Centre they will be fired up in this spot in front of one of the best fan bases in the NHL.
The Jets have had a disappointing campaign but heading into tonight’s matchup with the Blues they are only five points behind them for the final wild card spot in the Western Conference and desperately need a four point swing in tonight’s game. Winnipeg is two games under the .500 mark and have played two more games than the Blues to this point so they know the magnitude that this game carries and they will need the likes of Mark Schiefele and rookie sensation Patrik Laine to elevate their play and earn the victory. Connor Hellebuyck is expected to get the start in the Winnipeg crease as he will face off against Jake Allen who has but eight road wins this season in what has been an eye opening experience in his first season as the team’s starter.
The Blues are winless in their last four games against the Central and have played to the OVER in five of their last six against the West while the Jets are 1-4 in their last five against the West and have played to the OVER in 13 of their last 15 against the West. This game has the makings of being a barn burner and with the offense each team has I think this one soars over the total.
