Vancouver looks to avoid slipping into the Western Conference basement as they head into Winnipeg to battle the Jets.
The Vancouver Canucks have had a tough season and head into tonight’s game sitting in third to last in the West with 66 points and are just two points clear of the Jets for the basement position with just 11 games remaining. Vancouver sits five games under .500 and will likely land a top end draft pick in the off season and at this rate they might be better off trying to land a better draft position as they could really use another piece or two to add to their existing young core. The Canucks are likely to undergo an overhaul in the offseason as guys like Henrik and Daniel Sedin, and Alex Burrows could be on their final legs with the franchise and them moving on could be a blessing for a team looking for a new identity. Ryan Miller is expected to get the call in the Vancouver crease as he will face off against Ondrej Pavelec.
The Jets meanwhile continue their disappointing campaign as they have gone from a playoff Cinderella last season to an underachiever this season and things don’t look great moving forward as they need to load up on some new prospects. Winnipeg does have a decent core and shouldn’t be in the abyss for long but they need to address their holes accordingly in the offseason and and bring in some more weapons in the offensive zone. As for now though the Jets do actually match up well with the Canucks and at home I think they should be considered the favourite and at a decent price I think Winnipeg is the move to make here.
