The NHL Western Conference finals kick off Saturday with the Winnipeg Jets hosting the Vegas Golden Knights.
The Vegas Golden Knights continued their magical season with a Western Conference final matchup with the Winnipeg Jets. Vegas was impressive during the regular season and that momentum carried over in to round one battle with the LA Kings with a four sweep. The Golden Knights outscored the Kings 7-2 with a pair of shutouts in a defense dominated series.
Vegas turned to their offense in a 4-2 series win versus San Jose, outscoring the Sharks 19-6 in their four wins although the team showed the ability to play airtight defense. The Golden Knights postseason leaders after two rounds are Jonathan Marchessault and Reilly Smith with eleven points each (4 and 1 goal respectably) while William Karlsson has logged four goals and six assists for ten points.
The Winnipeg Jets outlasted Nashville with a 5-1 victory in game seven to punch their ticket to the Western Conference finals. Winnipeg proved they could beat the Predators at either end of the ice and did just that in game seven Thursday where everything clicked.
The potent Jets offense saw Paul Stastny and Mark Scheifele score two times each with Tyler Myers joining the scoring column. Stastny also posted an assist with Kyle Connor and Blake Wheeler adding two assists apiece to make Connor Hellebuyck and his 36 saves a winner.
Golden Knights are 4-0 in their last 4 when their opponent allows 2 goals or less in their previous game and Golden Knights are 7-1 in their last 8 when their opponent scores 5 goals or more in their previous game and Golden Knights are 11-2 in their last 13 vs. a team with a winning record. Under is 4-0 in Jets last 4 after scoring 5 goals or more in their previous game and under is 7-1 in Jets last 8 home games and Jets are 6-1 in their last 7 Saturday games.
This is a very quick turnaround for the Jets who just played on Thursday and have no time to rest and recover from a long physical series. I don’t know how this will effect the team but for now I’ll go with the over…
