The Winnipeg Jets host game two of the Western Conference finals against the Vegas Golden Knights in Monday NHL action.
The Vegas Golden Knights have proven the naysayers wrong over and over again in their inaugural season and now face a 1-0 series deficit following a 4-2 defeat at Winnipeg on Saturday night. The potent Vegas attack was largely bottled up and the defensive end of the ice was unable to control the scoreboard.
Brayden McNabb scored at 8:10 of the first and William Karlsson tallied at 15:55 of the second period with the man advantage but the Golden Knights were playing catch up the entire game. Jonathan Marchessault gave Vegas a pair of helpers but Marc-Andre Fleury was touched for all four goals on 26 shots.
The Winnipeg Jets wanted to start their series against the Golden Knights fast and keep the scoreboard under control and accomplished both objectives. Winnipeg opened the first period with three goals in the first 7:35 of the opening period and never looked back.
Dustin Byfuglien gave the Jets the lead just 65 seconds in to the first before Patrik Laine and Joel Armia also lighting the lamp before Mark Scheifele scored at 9:54 of the second period for a 4-1 advantage. The Jets also received assists from Byfuglien and Scheifele ith Blake Wheeler adding three helpers to make an easy winner of Connor Hellebuyck and his 21 saves.
The trends for this matchup have not been released so please check back for an update.
Game one appeared to be heading for a wild offensive show before the respective defenses took control. I am going with the Jets team total over for now and will update…
