The Line: France -125
France and Ecuador, the two top teams from group E, will take the field in a World Cup match on Wednesday afternoon.
France is in great shape with wins over Honduras and Switzerland in its first two matches. France has been an offensive juggernaut to begin the tournament, scoring eight goals and getting production from just about everyone. In the, 5-2, win over Switzerland, France put 16 shots on goal and had five different players find the net. It shouldn’t be a surprise that Karim Benzema is leading the charge with three goals thus far and has set the tone by scoring the first goal in each of the first two matches. France is looking more and more like a team that can go the distance in this tournament.
Ecuador needs a win to guarantee a spot in the next round, as it beat Honduras but lost to Switzerland. Considering Ecuador isn’t great offensively, this game will be won on the defensive end. Frickson Erazo and Christian Noboa are well aware of France’s offensive ability, and they’ll have to be ready to allow less shots than they did in their last match. Despite a victory, Ecuador allowed Honduras to get off 16 shots, an amount that could doom them from any chance of a win against France. The game was also mighty physical that included 22 total fouls. Antonio Valencia has to have a big game in this match for Ecuador to advance.
This is going to be a highly competitive match given the circumstances, but it’s almost impossible not to pick France to win. The offensive numbers are no joke and Ecuador doesn’t have the firepower to keep up if France can keep putting the ball in the net by the truckload.
The juice isn’t anything crazy, so you’d be a fool not to back France for yet another victory.
