Colombia and Venezuela meet on Sunday with both teams looking for a positive start to the Copa. Colombia are one of my favourites for the competition and they have a a strikeforce to be envied led by captain and one of the best strikers in the world in Ramadal Falcao. After a disappointing season at Manchester United , Falcao is trying to get his career back on track and has always done well with his country. I expect him to continue that trend with a strong Copa America . With such a strong squad Colombia will be looking to get off to a fast start against Venezuela. Managing the Colombia side could be quite tough with James Rodrigues of Real Madrid , Carlos Bacca of Sevilla, Portos Jackson Martinez and the aforementioned Falcao this there is really only space for three of these four and they are superstars in their own rights so it will be a balancing job for Pekerman and trying to get the right team on the field for every game.
Venezuela come into this game as huge underdogs and they will play a defence based system to pack the midfield and try to stop the midfield of Colombia getting space to create chances. Venzuela have some quality players with Fedor, Martinez and Fedor along with the two Rondons. As a whole Venezuela are one of the rank outsiders for the tournament and it doesnt get much tougher than Colombia as a starting game.
Trying to find value in these opening round games has been tough but Colombia at 1/2 here looks really good to me. I know the price is prohibitive but like Chile on Thursday Colombia are just a step above their opponents here and should win this game comfortably. Im taking Colombia here and will also spread a little on the handicap.
