Germany and Sweden meet Saturday in the round of 16 in the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

Germany beat Thailand and Ivory Coast to get to this point, easily winning group B due to goal differential. Germany has dominated time of possession throughout this tournament and has been super aggressive on the offensive end. Germany has 92 shot attempts in its first three matches and 41 have been on target. Anja Mittag and Celia Sasic have combined for seven goals, while Melanie Behringer has two assists and five shot attempts. Germany’s best defense is its offense, as the amount of time it controls the ball really limits its opponents shot attempts. Germany has allowed just five shots on target and has given up just one goal, which came in a draw against Norway. Germany has proven to be a dangerous team in this tournament.

Sweden has managed to sneak in to the elimination rounds by forcing three draws. Sweden has relied on a physical style of play that has produced 32 fouls. Sweden has also proven to be a solid defensive team that has allowed just 10 shots on target and four goals, which includes a 0-0 game against the United States. Offensively, Sweden has nine shots on target and has found the back of the net on four of those shots. Linda Sembrant, Nilla Fischer and Sofia Jakobsson are your three goal scorers for Sweden. Sweden clearly has the defense to hang with any team in the tournament, but you question the consistent offense, especially if it finds itself in an early hole.

Sweden has already shown it can hang with elite competition, as it went toe-to-toe with the U.S. Still, this is a dangerous match, as the Germans will push the pace, control the ball and really test Sweden defensively.

While the Germans are the better team, Sweden has shown it won't back down and can compete with teams like this. I'll take a chance on the free goal if forced to cap this game.

Sweden +1.5
