Milan is hosting Inter in one of the biggest derbies in Italian soccer.
Milan has won 2 out of 3 Serie A matches this season but their game is a disaster. Despite being a better team in those two games Milan has won, they were able to score only 1 goal in each game against the teams that will be at the bottom of the standings. In their last game against Verona, Milan was dominant with 71% of ball possession, 4 shots on goal, 7 corner kicks, and 89% of correct passes. Piatek scored a goal from a penalty shot in 68th minute and the result hasn't changed. Piatek and Calhanoglu have each scored 1 goal while Suso has 1 assist. Caldara is injured while Calabria is suspended due to a red card against Verona. Milan is playing good soccer with solid midfield and defense and I think it's only a matter of time before Milan's strikers get into a better goal scoring form because Milan is to a talented team with a really good coach who was signed this summer alongside the new general manager. It's been a while since Milan was close to the top of Serie A, and with Juventus focusing on Champions League, and both Napoli and Inter playing in three competitions, this could be a chance for Milan to quietly sneak closer to the top of the standings. For Milan to do that, coach Giampaolo will need to figure out a way to get his strikers in a better form and keep his defense in a good shape.
Inter has brought a few new players and a new coach Antonio Conte this summer which made them Juventus' main competitor for the title. Inter hasn't lost any of their last 7 games and is yet to lose a game in Serie A this season. With 3 wins, 7 scored goals and only 1 conceded a goal, Inter is at the top of Serie A with 9 points. In their last game against Udinese, Inter was a much better team with 64% of ball possession, 8 shots on goal, 8 corner kicks, and 87% of correct passes. Stefano Sensi was the only goal scorer in this match and the only thing that saved Udinese from a bigger loss was their goalkeeper. Lukaku and Sensi have both scored 2 goals while Martinez, Candreva, and Brozovic added 1 goal each. There are no injuries or suspensions in Inter's squad which means coach Conte will have his best players at his disposal. Inter was playing in Champions League earlier this week against Slavia Prague at home and the game ended in a 1-1 draw. With everything displayed in Serie A this early in the season, I think that Inter is the most complete team with solid defense, compact midfield, and efficient attack. With that being said, if Inter brings another one or two players in the winter and once Sanchez gets in the form, I think that Inter is the closest to the Serie A title.
Both Milan and Inter are from the same city and are sharing the same stadium so the home advantage doesn't mean a lot here. Games between Milan and Inter are always tense and fun to watch and I expect the same here. Both teams are playing good soccer and while Milan is struggling offensively, Inter had a midweek match in Champions League. I will take a stab at a draw.
