The San Siro will host the first leg of the Coppa Italia semi-final tie between AC Milan and Juventus on Thursday. Both sides lost in Serie A last time out, so who can bounce back with a victory this week?
Like most Serie A clubs, AC Milan entered this season’s Coppa Italia at the Round of 16 stage. Stefano Pioli’s side comfortably beat fellow top-flight club SPAL 3-0 to book their place in the last eight. However, things weren’t so comfortable against in the quarter-finals against Torino. Hakan Calhanoglu scored a late equalizer to send the game into extra-time before scoring again – along with Zlatan Ibrahimovic – to win eventually beat Torino 4-2.
Three straight victories had seen Milan fighting for the European places in Serie A. But after drawing with Verona, Milan were thrashed by rivals Inter in their previous game. Derby defeat has left Milan tenth in the table and their record of W9-D5-L9 underlines the team’s inconsistency. Only four teams have scored fewer Serie A goals than Milan in 2019/20.
A Paulo Dybala doubled helped Juventus hammer Udinese 4-0 in their first Coppa Italia game this season. Juve limited Udinese to just one shot on target, while Gonzalo Higuain and Douglas Costa also netted. Cristiano Ronaldo got on the scoresheet as Juventus beat Roma 3-1 in the previous round to secure a spot in the last four.
Maurizio Sarri’s side come into this game on the back of a shock 2-1 defeat to Verona. Juve’s second defeat in three league games has seen Inter reclaim top spot in the Serie A table, although both sides sit level on 54 points. Still, Juventus have only lost three of their 23 league games this term and will be desperate to return to winning ways on Thursday.
Prediction and Pick
Juventus haven’t been at their best this season, but you’d be foolish to bet against them beating an extremely inconsistent Milan team. The home win is at 3.60, while you can get odds of 3.40 for the draw. However, 2.00 for the Juventus win can’t be ignored. Juventus are capable of beating anyone on their day, and with Cristiano Ronaldo currently enjoying his best goalscoring spell since arriving in Italy, the away win is a great bet here.
