Ajax vs Real Madrid- 2/13/19 -UEFA Champions League Soccer Pick, Odds, and Prediction

Noah K. Murray-USA TODAY Sports

Ajax Amsterdam will host Real Madrid in the first tie of the Champions League round of 16 match.

Ajax lost their previous match as they were beaten by Heracles away from home. It was a disappointing performance by the strikers as they had 22 shots but failed to score in the 90 minutes. Furthermore, Ajax held 64% of the possession while completing over 500 passes but still failed to score any goals. Ajax enter this game in very bad form as the team has only won once in their last 4 league games. With an opponent like Real Madrid this time around, Ajax will find it tough to turn their form around.

Real Madrid, on the other hand, had a big win over the weekend as they beat Atletico Madrid away from home. It was a very impressive performance by Real Madrid as the team controlled 64% of the ball while completing 271 more passes than Atletico Madrid. Gareth Bale looked in exceptional form during the win as he scored a goal in 74th minute. Real Madrid have been playing very good football in recent weeks as the team managed a draw against FC Barcelona before the team’s win over Atletico Madrid. Real Madrid have only lost 1 game in 2019 meaning the team enters this game in exceptional form.

The last time Ajax and Real Madrid played each other was in 2012 in the group stage of the UEFA Champions League. On that occasion, these two teams played twice with Real Madrid winning 4-1 on both occasions.

Taking everything into consideration, I am picking Real Madrid to win this game. Ajax enter this match is poor form while Real Madrid enter this match in exceptional form. Furthermore, Real Madrid have a stronger group of player when compared to Ajax. With all that in mind, I see Real Madrid winning this game.
