Nigeria +180 / Algeria +170 / Draw +200
Algeria will play against Nigeria in the semifinals of the 2019 African Cup of Nations.
Algeria have been in outstanding form this tournament and they continued their momentum in the previous round as they defeated Ivory Coast via a penalty shoot-out. It was a close match since both Algeria and Ivory Coast have strong squads. During the quarterfinal win, Algeria were the better team as they controlled 57% of the possession and had 21 shots. Algeria also managed to complete 507 passes at an accuracy of 81% which shows that the team moved the ball well.
It has been a very good tournament for Algeria as they have won all of their matches. Algeria beat Senegal in the group stage which was an indicative result since Senegal are a very strong team. Algeria have top players like Riyad Mahrez and Islam Slimani which will make them very hard to beat.
Looking at Nigeria, the team defeated South Africa 2-1 in the previous round. During the match, Nigeria only had 38% of the ball but the team showed great determination to score twice to decide the victory. William Troost-Ekong was the star performer for Nigeria as the Udinese defender scored the winning goal in the 89th minute of the match.
Nigeria have won 4 out of their 5 games in this tournament. The only loss for Nigeria was in the group stage where they were beaten by Madagascar. Players like Alex Iwobi and Odion Ighalo have been very good for Nigeria as they have provided great attacking creativity for the team.
This match between Nigeria and Algeria is set to be played at the Cairo International Stadium.
This should be a very close match since both Algeria and Nigeria have been playing good football in this tournament. With that in mind, I see Algeria winning this match. Nigeria have a very promising team but the players lack experience since their superstars are still very young in their careers. Algeria have a good group of experienced players like Riyad Mahrez who should ensure the team handles the occasion suitably. I see Algeria playing the better football on the day and securing themselves a spot in the final.
