The pick of the quarter finals will see tournament favourite Argentina take on a Colombia team that beat Brazil in the group stages, this one should be a cracker. Argentina are led by Lionel Messi the Barcelona superstar but funny enough it is not Messi that is the most important player on this Argentina team, Sergio Aguero is the man that makes this team tick and he will return from a shoulder sprain on Friday. Aguero is lethal up front and the Manchester City striker scored the winner against Uruguay with a brilliantly taken header that not many players would be capable of scoring but Aguero made it look easy. This is a brilliant Argentina team with superstars playing all across Europe Lavezzi and Pastore of PSG, Angel Di Maria and Rojo of Manchester United, the aforementioned Messi and Mascherano of Barcelona and of course Aguero and Zabaleta of Manchester City. It's a who's who of both players and clubs. Argentina are only 2/1 to win the entire competition and this game against Colombia looks to be the toughest game between Argentina and the final. Can Messi and his team mates finally deliver on the international stage?
Colombia have been completely underwhelming thus far in the tournament , scoring just one goal in three games even though they have a plethora of superstars up front with Falcao, Bacca, Martinez and Rodriguez. Falcao captains the side but the Monaco( possibly soon to be Chelsea) striker looks short on confidence in front of goal. His all round game has been good but his finishing and movement in the box has not been as sharp as in recent years. James Rodriguez is struggling to reach the level he was reaching at last summers World Cup, this is possibly because the Real Madrid midfielder is feeling the strains of a long club season but if Colombia are to be successful tomorrow then they will need the best from Rodriguez, Quadrado, Falcao and Bacca.
I liked Colombia prior to the tournament starting and I did pick them to beat Brazil in the group stages but unfortunately for Colombia fans they have not pushed on. Defensively Colombia do look solid though and this will be a battle between two passionate sides. Argentina themselves have struggled to break teams down and I think Colombia will pack the midfield tomorrow and this wont be pretty at least not starting off. I am going to take Sergio Aguero to score during the game at 13/10. Aguero is just one of those players that is a joy to watch every time he takes the field I am willing to roll with Aguero tomorrow.
