Argentina vs. Venezuela - 3/22/19 Soccer Pick, Odds, and Prediction

Argentina is hosting Venezuela in an international friendly match.

Argentina had a disappointing World Cup last year where they advanced from group stage as a second-place team with 4 points but then got knocked out against latter world champions France. Argentina’s roster is filled with some of the best players in the world like Dyabala, Di Maria, Correa and the best player in the world, Lionel Messi. Argentina’s roster has changed quite a bit since World Cup and that is exactly what they needed. They started by signing new coach Lionel Scaloni who then made changes to the roster and got Messi back to the national team. Since the arrival of coach Scaloni, Argetina has played 6 games from which they won 4, lost 1 while one game ended in a draw. In their last game against Mexico, Argentina was without Messi and they had 43% ball possession and 3 shot on goal and ended up winning this game 2-0 which shows their improvement on the defensive end. Argentina without Messi and with Messi are two completely different teams and with Messi being back on the team most of the plays will go through him. This is one of the two final preparations games for Argentina before Copa America starts in June.

Venezuela is a decent team whose best players are Solomon Rondon and MLS star Josef Martinez who is playing for Atlanta United. Venezuela is not playing overly attractive soccer and have won only 2 games out of the last 7. In their last game against Japan, Venezuela was totally outplayed and has had only 42% ball possession and 2 shots on goal but managed to tie the game at 1-1 9 minutes before the end. Venezuela is ranked as 32ndin FIFA standings and are coached by Rafael Dudamel who was signed back in April of 2016 and has won only 6 games since then. Venezuela is in group with Brazil, Bolivia and Peru and will be fighting for second place with Peru and Bolivia who are both much better team.

Head to head Argentina hasn’t lost any of the last 4 games against Venezuela and now Argentina has Messi back in the line up and because Argentina is the much better team I’m giving them the advantage here.

Pick:

Being from Croatia I was raised with soccer all around me and I loved to watch and play soccer ever since i was little kid, especially after Croatia won third place in 1998 World Cup in France. I watch and follow soccer on a daily basis and to get the oppurtunity to write about it is amazing.
