Venezuela vs. Argentina

Estadio Jornalista Mário Filho
Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
Venezuela will play against Argentina in the quarterfinals of the 2019 Copa America.
Argentina have had a poor tournament but a final game win against Qatar was enough to grant the team passage into the quarterfinals. Prior to the match against Qatar, Argentina only had 1 point from their 2 games.
In the win against Qatar, Argentina only managed 54% of the possession but they used the ball well as they took 19 shots and completed 500 passes. Lautaro Martinez opened the scoring for Argentina as the Inter Milan player scored in the 4th minute. Sergio Aguero doubled the lead for Argentina by scoring in the 82nd minute. While the win will be satisfying for Argentina, the team still looked below par and the movement and creativity were lacking. This will be a much tougher match for Argentina and they will need the likes of Messi and Aguero to be at their best.
In comparison, Venezuela has had a very good tournament having finished the group stage with 5 points. The group stage saw Venezuela getting a draw against Brazil. Venezuela defeated Bolivia 3-1 in their previous match.
It was a very solid performance by Venezuela and they outplayed Bolivia throughout the match. Venezuela took the lead in the second minute and were comfortable throughout the contest. Darwin Machis was the star performer for Venezuela as the striker scored twice. Josef Martinez scored Venezuela’s final goal in the 86th minute. The defense has been particularly impressive from Venezuela as they have only conceded 1 goal in the entire tournament. Other than Brazil and Colombia, Venezuela have the best defensive record in the tournament.
This match between Venezuela and Argentina is set to be played at the Estadio Jornalista Mário Filho (Maracanã) in Rio de Janeiro.
Venezuela will enter this match filled with confidence after playing extremely well throughout this tournament. Venezuela have already performed against big teams like Brazil and will feel optimistic about their ability to defeat Argentina. That being said, I am going to pick Argentina to win this match. While Argentina have lacked form throughout this tournament, the team is filled with the likes of Angel Di Maria, Sergio Aguero and Leo Messi who are all superstar player. Argentina have the experience of doing well at big tournaments and they have players who can carry the team. While form would suggest otherwise, I see Argentina having enough talent to win this match.
