Arsenal Transfer News: Wenger Plans Another Raid On The Bundesliga In The January Transfer Window

Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

As the dust settles on the Premier League Transfer window, it seems that some clubs like Arsenal are already planning their January shopping list.

Arsene Wenger has been accused of all sorts of things during the last 8 years when Arsenal have won nothing, however, he has sprung a little surprise on the fans with his last minute transfer deal for Mezut Ozil. Moreover, the size of the transfer fee, £40m ($63), again took the Arsenal faithful by surprise.

Of course there will still be those who say that the last thing Arsenal needed was another creative midfield player, given that they have plenty in that department, with Ramsay, Cazorla, Wilshire and so on, but he had to start somewhere and he could only buy what was available.

With that in mind, unusually for Wenger, he has let it be known that he will be going back to Germany in the January transfer window for those players he was unable to find this time, namely a defensive type midfielder. Moreover, he has already identified some players for whom he will want to make offers in January.

Top of his list will be Ilkay Gundogan, the Borussia Dortmund defensive midfielder; a player Wenger has been watching for some time now. Also near the top of his list will be Lars Bender currently at Bayer Leverkusen. Bender is a German national team player and is highly sought after, so there may be some competition for him. Furthermore, Leverkusen will not be keen to let a player of his stature leave, especially as they will be in the Champions League this season. In fact, we will be able to watch Bender as his side play Manchester United at Old Trafford on 17th September 2013.

While the Gunners will also keep tabs on Schalke’s Julian Draxler and Gundogan's Dortmund team-mate Marco Reus, they are no longer priorities now the Ozil deal has been done. Arsenal are also interested in Barcelona right-back Martin Montoya, 22, who is set to be a free agent next summer, and there is still cash to spend for a top striker.

We will have to wait and see if Wenger will make another splash in the transfer window in January 2014.

On July 1, 2008 I typed into Google "How Do I start A Blog" and I started my first website called "Miami Mitch's Place" where i shared my college football Picks and predictions as well as opinion. By the Fall I had heard from many that the title made it sound like the site was about Miami so I changed it to "College Football Place" (cfbplace.com), After the 2008 college football season I change focus and launched CBBplace.com, it wasn't long after that when I realized I just wanted one place to add all sports, and that's when Sports Chat Place was born.
