In the English Premier League, Arsenal will face Southampton at the Emirates Stadium in North London.
Arsenal are still fighting for a place in the top 4 meaning that every point will be essential for the team. In their previous Premier League fixture, Arsenal faced Huddersfield away from home. It was a comfortable win for Arsenal as Alex Iwobi and Alexandre Lacazette both scored to secure a 2-1 score. The Gunners are 1 point behind Manchester United in 4th place and with the Red Devils facing Liverpool, this could be Arsenal’s chance to move up the ladder.
On the other side of the field, Southampton are fighting for survival. As it currently stands, the Saints are 18th on the ladder and team must improve if they wish to remain in the Premier League next season. In their last outing, Southampton were beaten at home by Cardiff City. It was an extremely disappointing result for the Saints as they lost at home to a relegation rival. During the loss, Southampton defended very poorly as they conceded in injury time to seal their fate. It has been over a month since Southampton last won and the pressure will be high as the players must perform.
Surprisingly, Southampton won the last time these two teams met. The match was earlier in the season at St Mary’s Stadium where Southampton won 3-2.
As far as this match is concerned, it is hard to see how Southampton get any points. It has been a tough few weeks for the Saints and the team looks very low on confidence after losing to Cardiff City. The defence is struggling for Southampton and they will be away from home which will make life hard. Arsenal, on the other hand, are looking solid and are fighting for a top 4 spot in the Premier League. With the crowd on their side, I see Arsenal winning this match.
