Athletic Bilbao and Espanyol meet Sunday in La Liga soccer action at San Mames.
Athletic Bilbao enters this match with an overall record of 10-13-14, a 6-8-4 record at home and a 4-5-10 record on the road. Athletic Bilbao hope to get back on track after earning points in just two of their last six matches. Athletic Bilbao is coming off a 3-1 loss to Alavés and has had issues defensively as of late, allowing three goals in four of their last six matches. Putting together a complete match and producing a victory for the third time since March 18 would be a nice way for the Lions to go out. Athletic Bilbao has played its best soccer at home this season despite the lack of overall wins. Raul Garcia leads Athletic Bilbao with 10 goals, Aduriz has nine goals and Williams has seven goals.
Espanyol enters this match with an overall record of 11-13-13, a 8-6-5 record at home and a 3-7-8 record on the road. Espanyol are one of the hotter teams in the league at the moment, producing wins in three of their last four matches and earning points in each of their last four matches. Espanyol has had issues finding the back of the net all season long, but it’s produced six goals in its last two matches and just lit up Málaga for four goals in its last meeting. Espanyol doesn’t have much to play for at this point, but it has made progress in the standings the last few weeks, and you always like to see a club finish the season strong no matter what. Gerard leads Espanyol with 16 goals, Leo Baptistao has eight goals and Sergio Garcia has two goals.
Athletic Bilbao has had the upper hand over Espanyol in past meetings, winning two of the last five and producing two draws. The only time Espanyol has beaten Athletic Bilbao in the past five meetings was in March of 2016. Four of the last five matches shave produced at least two goals.
This total seems a bit too low when you factor in the way Espanyol has been playing for the last month and the fact Athletic Bilbao has done most of its damage at home. This game could have a back and forth feel to it with neither side having much to play for at this point.
I like the over 2.5 goals in this match.
