On Tuesday night Atletico Madrid will try to turn around a 1-0 deficit as they host Bayer Leverkusen at the Vincent Cauldron Stadium in Madrid. Atletico are going through something of a funk in form as they have won just one of their last five in all competitions. Defensively Atletico have been just as strong as always but they have really struggled to score goals. Greizmann, Mandzukich and Torres have gone off the boil and Atletico have scored just one goal in their last four games. Diego Simeone will have his team primed and ready for this one though as they face a really tough opponent who is in very good form having won their last five in all competitions. The crowd at the Vincent Cauldron will be loud and passionate as usual the question is can the Atletico Madrid team deliver a performance?
Bayer Leverkusen's entire season seemed to swing on that first leg against Atletico Madrid, prior to the game Bayer had won just one game in six but since the German side have won four from four, five if you included the Atletico game. Not only have they won the games though they seem to have picked up some much needed confidence and have won by three and four in their last two games. Son , Drmic and Kiebling will provide an attacking outlet forRoger Schmidt's side and Leverkusen will look to hold what they have when they travel to Madrid and hit Atletico on the counter attack when the opportunity arises.
This week's Champions League games are tricky and maybe none more so than this one. I love Atletico Madrid at home in 99% of their games and have done since Simeone took over but right now they are just very hard to trust. Bayer Leverkusen's strong form is a deterrent from backing Atletico and Atletico's struggles up front are also a worry. However there are a few things to take into account here, Atletico's three recent draws have come against Valencia, Sevilla and Espanyol all top half teams in La Liga and Valencia and Sevilla are third and fifth respectively. Bayer's three win's have come against the bottom three teams in the Bundesliga. So while I am still worried about Atletico's struggles up top I am going to take the home team to get a win that will bring them into the last eight. Taking a small bit of action on Atletico -1 as well.
