Atletico Madrid is welcoming Celta Vigo in round 32 of Spanish LaLiga.
Atletico Madrid is in a bit of a slump at the moment and is not playing good soccer. Atletico has been focusing on playing defensive soccer and fast counter attacks which makes them best defensive team in LaLiga and one of the best in Europe. In their last game against Barcelona, Atletico was playing bad soccer on both ends and has had only 36% ball possession, 2 shots on goal, 80% of correct passes and have lost that game 2-0. Atletico is holding 2ndplace in standings with only 2 points ahead of Real Madrid who is closing in fast. Griezman is Atletico’s best player and top goal scorer with 7 goals and 7 assists and is expected to lead the team once again in this game. Costa is suspended because of a red card, Thomas and Gimenez are suspended because of yellow cards while Lemar and Hernandez are injured and will not be playing in this game. Atletico Madrid has some of the best players in the world like Griezman, Koke and Oblak who is one of the best goalkeepers in the world, but coach Simeone is focusing his efforts on strong defense and that is the main reason why Atletico hasn’t won any titles in recent years and if they want to be more competitive in the future, coach Simeone will need to change his approach.
Celta Vigo is a team with a lot of potential and is playing better soccer as the season is coming to an end. Celta is holding 16thplace in the standings and is only 2 points above relegation zone. In their last game against Real Sociedad, Celta had a decent game with 48% ball possession, 4 shots on goal and 77% of correct passes but was able to score 3 goals and win 3-1. Thanks to that victory, players, coaches, and fans are filled with confidence and could save the season with another win in this match. Aspas is Celta’s legend and best player who scored 15 goals while Gomez added 11 goals and thanks to these two players Celta is safe outside the relegation zone. Junca and Mendez are injured while Aspas is suspended because of yellow cards and that is a huge blow for coach Escriba who will need to find a way to replace his star player. Celta had a really bad start of the season and couldn’t get their lines in order and only now as the season is coming to an end we are seeing the potential that this team has and if Celta manages to keep their LaLiga status and with a few additions to the team, Celta could fight for one of the top 5 spots in the standings.
Trends between these two teams are mixed and Atletico hasn’t lost any of their last 3 games against Celta when playing at home while Celta hasn’t won any of their last 8 away matches. Because of all the injuries and suspensions in Atletico, I’m going to take a stab at Celta here because they are playing good soccer and need this win more than Atletico Madrid.
