Atletico Madrid will host FC Barcelona at the Wanda Metropolitano. This is a big fixture for both sides as the winner will most to top spot on the La Liga ladder.
FC Barcelona had a shock defeat in their last fixture as they were beaten by Real Betis at home. It was a disappointing defeat as Ivan Rakitic was sent off meaning Barcelona will be without the Croatian superstar for this match. The loss to Real Betis means that FC Barcelona have failed to win their last 2 fixtures. On a positive note, Leo Messi is fit again and he showed that he is playing well as he scored twice in the loss to Real Betis. This will be a tough outing for FC Barcelona as Atletico Madrid have been playing well, especially at home.
Atletico Madrid have been exceptional at home this season as they remain unbeaten at the Wanda Metropolitano. In their previous fixture, Atletico Madrid won 3-2 thanks to a late winner by Diego Godin. It was a convincing win for the hosts as Atletico Madrid controlled most of the possession and had more shots. Unfortunately for the hosts, Godin suffered an injury in the win meaning that Atletico Madrid could be missing their superstar defender for this fixture. Looking at recent form, Atletico Madrid have an advantage which should only be multiplied considering they are at home.
This should be a very close match considering both teams will know the importance of the result. It is expected that FC Barcelona will dominate most of the possession but I don’t think that will be enough. Atletico Madrid have been exceptional at home and the hosts seem to find a way to beat big teams via strong teamwork. With the support of the crowd, I am predicting Atletico Madrid to win this clash.
