Atletico Madrid are set to host Getafe in round 21 of Spanish LaLiga.
Atletico Madrid is one of the top three teams in Spain for the last few years, and each year people don't give them much chance but they always seem to surprise. Atletico is playing calm, controling and not overly offensive or attractive soccer and that is what makes them dangerous. Atletico is the team that will let their opponent control the match, control the possession and when they lose their focus, Atletico will make them pay as counter attack, alongside great and compact defense are their strongest weapons. Antoine Griezman is Atletico’s best player and top goal scorer with 9 goals and he’s been on fire lately. Atletico’s injury list is quite long, Savic, Vitolo, Niguez, Martins, Koke, Kalinic, Luis, are all listed as doubtful, while Costa and Correa will not be playing. Even though Atletico has scored only 30 goals so far this season, they haven’t lost in their last 18 games. Atletico has been almost unbeatable at home with 11 wins, 8 draws and only 1 loss. Atletico is holding second place on the table with 41 points.
Getafe is probably the biggest surprise this season, they are playing nice, compact soccer with great defense; I dare to say same as Atletico but with little less quality. Getafe has conceded only 16 goals thus far into season which makes them second best defense in LaLiga. Getafe’s away record is 3 wins, 6 draws and only 1 loss. Jorge Molina is the top goal scorer with 8 goals and Jaime Mata is just behind him with 6. Ndiaye, Bergara and Shibasaki are all out for this match. Before season started, Getafe did not expect to find themselves in this spot, which made their ambitions grow and now they are legit contenders to compete in European League next season.
Atletico Madrid hasn’t lost a game in last 18 matches, and Getafe hasn’t won a game against Atletico in last 15 matches dating back to 2010., and not only that, but they haven’t scored a goal when playing in Madrid in last 8 matches. I’m expecting really tough match, with not too much excitement, but I’m giving the edge to Atletico because they have more quality and are on a roll for quite some time now.
