Atletico Madrid is hosting Getafe in round 1 of Spanish LaLiga.

Atletico Madrid finished last season in second place with 76 points, 11 points behind Barcelona and 8 points ahead of Real Madrid. Atletico was very active on the market this summer and has lost some important players like Juanfran, Godin, and Luis whose contracts expired and have left the club for free and Griezman and Hernandez, and Rodri for a combined sum of 270 million euros. Most notable signings for Atletico Madrid were Joao Felix for 126 million euros, Marcos Llorente for 30 million, Kieran Trippier for 22 million and Hector Herrera as a free signing. In this preseason period, Atletico Madrid played only 5 matches and has won all 5 games with 12 scored goals. Atletico isn't the team that will play attacking soccer and have high ball possession, instead, they focus on the strong defense and fast counter-attacks which is their trademark. Atletico has now added some young players with a lot of potentials and in combination with players like Costa, Savic, Trippier and one of the best goalkeepers in the world in Jan Oblak, Atletico will be the biggest threat to Barcelona and Real Madrid in LaLiga. Simer Vrsaljko is the only injured player in Atletico's squad while Costa and Correa are both suspended and will not be playing in this match. Diego Simeone is a great coach but if Atletico will want to be competitive both in LaLiga and Champions League, they will eventually need to start playing more offense and creating more chances.

Getafe had an amazing last season and have ended up on 5th place, just 2 points behind Champions League spot. Most of the Getafe's players are still at the club and coach Pepe Bordalas can be satisfied with the squad situation because the chemistry between his players is great and they are expecting good things this season. Getafe played 8 games this preseason and has 3, lost 1 while 4 matches ended up in a draw. Coach Bordalas was signed back in September of 2016., and since then Getafe has been playing good soccer and constantly improving. Getafe's average age of the team is over 27 years and that could be the problem for them because all of their best players are over 33 years old. Last season, Getafe scored 48 goals which are average of 1.26 goals per game. Getafe doesn't play attractive and enjoyable soccer, instead, they are playing very similar to Atletico Madrid by focusing on counter-attacks and trying to keep the ball out of their net. Vitorino Antunes is the only injured players in Getafe's team and will not be playing in this game. Getafe will be playing Europa League this season bu the expectations are not high both in LaLiga and Europa League because management hasn't invested a lot in the team so there is no pressure on the team. It will be really hard for Getafe to repeat last season with mostly the same players from last season.

Atletico and Getafe have played 33 times since 2001., with Atletico winning 21 games, Getafe 4 games while 8 matches ended up in a draw. While playing at home, Atletico hasn't lost any of their last 9 matches against Getafe and hasn't conceded a single goal in those 9 games. Both form and quality are on Atletico's side and I don't see Getafe standing a chance here.

Atlético Madrid: -1.5 (+150)

Being from Croatia I was raised with soccer all around me and I loved to watch and play soccer ever since i was little kid, especially after Croatia won third place in 1998 World Cup in France. I watch and follow soccer on a daily basis and to get the oppurtunity to write about it is amazing.
