Atletico Madrid is welcoming Girona in round 30 or Spanish LaLiga.
Atletico Madrid is one of the top teams in Spain with some of the best players in the world like Griezman, Koke, Costa and Morata who is slowly waking up and scoring some goals once again. With 2 losses in last 6 games, Atletico Madrid have practically gave the title to Barcelona and will be fighting for second place with Real Madrid. Atletico is the best defensive teams in Spain and in Europe with only 19 conceded goals and their soccer style is focused on defending and controlling the midfield which allows them to play fast and precise counter attacks. In their last game against Deportivo Alaves, Atletico was better team with 56% ball possession, 7 shots on goal and 80% of correct passes which is pretty low for them, but Atletico’s offense displayed high level of efficiency and have scored 4 goals and ended up winning this game 0-4. Griezman is Atletico’s best player and top goal scorer with 12 goals and 7 assists and is expected to lead Atletico Madrid’s offense once again. Lucas Hernandez and Arias are only 2 injured players and will not play in this game. Coach Simeone is known for his charisma and defensive soccer style and he is one of the main reasons why Atletico is so close to the top for last few years, but if Atletico is going to win any of the important titles, their game style will need to change and they will need to start playing more offense.
Girona is one of the most pleasant surprises in LaLiga this season and are holding 13th place in the standings with 34 points. Girona are playing defensive soccer with focus on counter attacks because they don’t have enough quality to compete with stronger team in possession and pressure without a ball. In their last game against Athletic Bilbao, Girona was worse team with 49% ball possession, 2 shots on goal and 77% of correct passes and have lost 1-2 and only their good defense saved them from a bigger loss. Cristhian Stuani is Girona’s top goal scorer with 17 goals and will lead his team once again in this game. Aday, Mojica, Luiz and Lozano are injured and will not play. Coach Eusebio is doing really good job with the roster he has, and Girona’s defense has improved a lot and is they want to stay in the position they are now, Girona has to improve even more on the defensive end because they average more then 1 conceded goal per game.
These two team have played 5 games dating back to 2017. and all 5 games ended up with a draw with at least 2 scored goals. I will stick to the trends here and take a stab at a draw.
