Austria is welcoming Poland in round 1 of Euro Cup qualifications.
Austria is a pretty good team being led by David Alaba and Marko Arnautovic. Austria didn’t qualify for World Cup last summer which was a disappointment for both players and fans and because of that Austrian soccer association decided to fire coach Koller and go in a different direction by signing Franco Foda back in November of 2017 and since then, Austria played 12 matches and lost only 3 during that period. In Nations League Austria played in a group with Bosnia and Northern Ireland and ended up in second place with 2 wins, 1 draw and 1 loss. There hasn’t been a lot of changes in Austrian team between then and now so chemistry and morale are pretty good and because of that expectations are high. In their last game against Northern Ireland, Austria had decent game with 45% ball possession and 3 shots on goal and ended up winning this game 1-2. David Alaba is Austria’s best player and one of the best players in his club Bayern Munich and is expected to lead Austrian team once again in this game. In this qualifications Austria is playing in a group with Israel, Lithuania, Slovenia, Poland and Macedonia and has a good chance of ending up in one of top two spots that will get them qualified to Euro Cup.
Poland is a team with huge potential with players like Lewandovski, Milik and Piatek who are some of the best strikers in Europe at the moment. In last years World Cup Poland was huge disappointment with winning only 1 game against Japan and by playing really bad soccer. Bad results continued for Poland after World Cup and they haven’t won any of their last 6 matches including latest one against Portugal where they had 49% ball possession and only 2 shots on goal despite having man advantage for last 30 minutes of the match. Lewandovski is leader and captain of this Poland’s team and is one of the best players that has ever played for Poland but without enough support on the defensive end its hard to play better. Jerzy Brzczek has been Poland’s coach since July 2018 and results are not in his favor but Polish soccer association is being patient with him because they believe he is the right man for the job. Poland has enough quality in their team to start turning things around and to qualify for Euro Cup and its only a matter of time before Poland starts winning again.
Austria is a good team but I’m not sure why are they being favorites in this match because Poland is better team in my opinion and 6 game without a win is a pretty long streak for a national team and its only a matter of time before this streak ends. I will take a stab at Poland here.
