On Wednesday Manchester City will travel to Barcelona looking for a little miracle, Manchester City must go and win in the Nou Camp and must score more than two goals to have any chance of progressing. Barcelona have conceded two goals in the Nou Camp once this season but still won the game 3-2. The last team in the Champions League to score two or more and win in the Nou Camp? Bayern Munich back in 2013 when they demolished Barcelona 7-0 on aggregate, this Manchester City team are not in the bracket of good. With Sergio Aguero up top though Manchester City will have a chance if they can hold onto enough ball to create some chances. Ya Ya Toure, David Silva and Samir Nasri will need to be both disciplined and creative and will need alot of workrate to get through this 90 minutes. Manchester City must go for it from the off, even if BArcelona score it doesnt change what City have to do, they must score at least twice. But Manchester City also come into this game in poor form having won just one of four since losing 2-1 to Barcelona in Manchester.
Barcelona on the other hand have won sixteen of their last seventeen in all competitions. Lionel Messi and Luis suarez have started to form a partnership up top and Neymar has been excellent this season chipping in with seventeen league goals. Neymar's goalscoring record would be treated as exceptional if it wasnt for Messi and Ronaldo's super human efforts (32 in 27 for Messi and 30 in 24 for Ronaldo). With such a strong squad Barcelona look to have a team capable of bringing home both the Champions League and League titles. It is hard to judge their defence in La Liga though and we wont really know how good they are defensively until they face Real Madrid/Bayern Munich in the knockout stages. Manchester City have the firepower to get at Barcelona but the question is can City hold enough ball to create the chances necessary to win this game?
There is no value here in the price on Barcelona as 2/5 is just far too short. I'm not gone on City though either as they have been too much of a let down in the big games this year with one exception being thier 2-0 win in Rome to qualify for the knockout stages. City have the players to compete with anyone on their day but I'm just not comfortable siding with them here. Instead I am going to take Manchester City on the handicap as I think +2 is too much if City can keep 11 men on the field. This one should be tight and to give City a two goal head start, I think that is just too much.
