After pulling off a huge shock in game week one by beating Chelsea in Chelsea Basel looked all set to top the Group and push on to qualify for the knockout stages, however disappointing results at home to Schalke and in both games against Steau Bucharest has left Basel in the precarious position of possibly being knocked out of the competition tonight. Murat Yakin's side have really failed to build on that great start to the competition but they have a chance tonight if they can repeat round ones victory over chelsea to take control of their own destiny. Marco Strellar will lead the line up front and Fabian Frei, Salah and Soi will all provide goal scoring threats to Chelsea but the question for Basel will be can the Basel midfield contain Chelsea's star studded midfield?
Jose Mourhino's Chelsea have been anything but predictable in the last few weeks, beating Manchester City, Arsenal and Schalke twice then losing to Newcastle and drawing at home to West Brom. Chelsea have a superb midfield filled with some of the best players in the world with Mata, Hazard and Oscar some of the top talents in world football. Up front though is where Chelsea have had problems Fernando Torres looked the answer and has been in really terrific form when playing in recent weeks. It appears as if Torres may be fit to start tonight although Samuel Eto is favourite to start having played well in Torres absence.
Basel are tough to beat and at home especially have been very good in Europe where they have boasted victories over Bayern Munich and Manchester United. I think tonight will be a more open game than many expect. Chelsea's rear guard looks weak to me with Gary Cahill playing in place of the injured David Luiz. John Terry's legs are suspect against pacey teams and Basel present plenty of pace on the wings. I think we see a few goals tonight and I am going to take the overs here.
