Borussia Dortmund is welcoming Augsburg in round 1 of German Bundesliga.
Borussia was at the top of Bundesliga for most of the last season, just to slip up in the end and stay behind Bayern once again. Borussia is playing great, offensive and enjoyable soccer and with the new players like Hummels, Hazard, Schulz and Brandt, Borussia will be even more competitive both in Bundesliga and Champions League. Even though Borussia lost Pulisic who went to Chelsea, they were able to keep Jordan Sancho who was one of the best players in Bundesliga last season. In the preseason Borussia played 7 matches and has won all 7 with 27 scored goals and 5 conceded goals. Borussia has a fantastic young squad filled with talented players like Sancho, Brandt, Weigl, and Akanji who will get only better in combination with experienced players like Reus, Hummels, Witsel and Alcacer. Raphael Guerreiro is only injured player in Dortmund's squad and is expected to return in 2 weeks. Coach Favre has done an amazing job with this Borussia team since he was signed back in July of 2018., and now with this few new players, Borussia gained experience and confidence on both ends of the field. Borussia will once again fight with Bayern for the top spot in Bundesliga and if they stay consistent, Borussia and their fans might just end up at the top.
Augsburg is one of those teams that will be fighting to stay in Bundesliga once again after they ended up just 4 points above the relegation zone last season. Augsburg was pretty active on the market this summer with a dozen of departures and arrivals with most notable being Reece Oxford who was bought from West Ham for 2 million euros. Oxford is one of the most talented young players in the world and will be a great addition to this Augsburg team. Augsburg has played only 6 games this preseason and has won 3 and lost 3 matches with 17 scored goals and 6 conceded goals. Martin Schmidt was signed as a Augsburg's head coach in April on this year and he is the main reason why Augsburg managed to turn thing around and to stay in Bundesliga. Framberger, Gotze, Iago, Finnbogason, Max, and Vargas are all injured while Caiuby is suspended and will not be playing in this season opener. Augsburg is one of the weakest teams in Bundesliga and they are forced to defend against most of the teams because they lack quality and consistency on both ends of the field and for that reason, Augsburg will be fighting to stay in Bundesliga once again.
Borussia and Augsburg have played 17 times since 2011., with Borussia winning 10 games, Augsburg 2 games while 5 ended up in a draw. Dortmund is a much better team who is playing some of the best soccer in Germany and are scoring a ton of goals. I'm not giving a lot of chances to Augsburg in this match especially because Borussia is playing at home in front of some of the best fans in the world.
