Borussia Dortmund is welcoming Wolfsburg in a derby match of round 27 of German Bundesliga.
Borussia Dortmund is one of the top teams in Germany and after being at the top of the standings from the begining of the season, Borussia now shares 1st place with Bayern with same number of points but worse goal differential. Borussia’s squad is a good mix of experienced players like Reus, Alcacer, Goetze and Witsel and young and talented stars like Sancho, Pulisic, Larsen and Weigl. So far into season, Borussia have score massive 64 goals in 26 matches which makes them one of the most efficient teams in Europe. Problem for Borussia as of late is that their defense is unable to keep the ball out of the net and that is the main reason why Borussia lost 4 out of last 10 games. In their last game against Hertha, Borussia was much better team with 52% ball possession, 8 shots on goal, 10 corner kicks and low 79% of correct passes and were able to win this game 2-3 after being behind twice. In this match against Hertha, Borussia’s defense made a lot of mistakes and I’m not sure luck will be on their side next time so coach Favre will need do something to try and stabilize his defense if Borussia wants to keep up with Bayern. Marco Reus is Borussia’s top goal scorer with 15 goals while Alcacer added 14 goals and Sancho added 12 assists.
Wolfsburg is one of the best teams in Bundesliga at the moment with only 1 loss in last 6 matches and if their management manages to keep young stars like Brekalo and Arnold in the club, Wolfsburg will be fighting for one of the top 3 spots in Bundesliga next season. Wolfsburg is holding 7th place in the standings with 12 wins, 6 draws and 8 losses, 44 scored goals and are only 5 points away from Champions League spot. Weghorst has scored 12 goals and is Wolfsburg’s top goal scorer while Camacho, Azzaoui and Ginczek are injured and will not play in this game. In their last game against Fortuna, Wolfsburg have demonstrated all of their power by having 59% ball possession, 10 shots on goal, 84% of correct passes and have won that game 5-2. After a rocky start of the season, coach Labbadia has done a great job in turning things around and he is one of the main reasons why Wolfsburg is fighting for Champions League.
Dortmund haven’t lost a game at home so far this season and haven’t lost any of their last 6 home matches against Wolfsburg but because both teams have some defensive issues and are scoring a lot of goals on the offensive end I will pick something on goals here.
