Borussia M’gladbach is welcoming Borussia Dortmund in round 34 of German Bundesliga.
M’gladbach is playing solid soccer and is holding 4th place in the standings with 55 points which is the last place that leads into Champions League next season. With the same number of points as Leverkusen and only 1 point in front of Eintracht, M’gladbach has to win here to stay in this place. In their last game against Nurnberg, M’gladbach was great with 52% of ball possession, 5 shots on goal, 5 corner kicks and 90% of correct passes and has won this game 0-4. Alassane Plea is M’gladbach’s top goal scorer with 12 goals followed by Thorgan Hazard who scored 10 times. Doucoure, Mayer, Stindl, Raffael, and Neuhaus are all injured and will not play in this match. M’gladbach is a solid, well-balanced team who score 55 goals and conceded 40 goals so far this season. With high possession and lots of fast short passes, M’gladbach is playing some of the nicest and most enjoyable soccer in Germany and thanks to coach Hecking, M’gladbach is fighting for Champions League spot. It will be really hard for M’gladbach’s management to keep all of their three best players in Hazard, Plea and Ginter because there is a lot of interest from bigger clubs, but if they manage to keep them, M’gladbach will be a force to reckon with next season in Bundesliga.
Borussia Dortmund is coming into this matchup in second place with 2 points less than Bayern, and for them to have any chances of winning the title, Dortmund has to win this game. In their last game against Fortuna, Dortmund had 60% of ball possession, 5 shots on goal, 91% of correct passes and was able to win this game 3-2 with a lot of luck being on their side. Paco Alcacer is Dortmund’s top goal scorer with 18 goals followed by Reus who has 16 and young superstar Jordan Sancho who has 11 goals and 14 assists. Hakimi and Wolf are both injured and will not play in this game. Borussia was at the top of Bundesliga for most of the season thanks to their strong start of the season, but in January Dortmund got into a dark hole and with a few bad results Bayern was able to catch up to them. With 79 scored goals, Borussia Dortmund is one of the best offensive teams in Bundesliga and Europe, but their struggles are on the defensive end where they are inexperienced and the proof of that is Borussia has conceded 14 goals in last 6 games. Christian Pulisic has already signed with Chelsea and will be leaving after the season ends while the future of Jordan Sancho is still uncertain because every big team in Europe wants him in their squad. Coach Favre has already signed a new deal and will remain the head coach next season as well.
M’gladbach hasn’t won any of their last 7 games against Dortmund but because both teams need to get into this match in the attacking mode because both teams need a win here, I will pick something on goals rather than picking who will win this match.
