More Championship action on Tuesday night as Leeds United travel to Griffen Park to take on Brentford in what should be a cracking game from the most competitive league in England. Only four points seperate Brentford and Leeds United but six places seperate them. Leeds have had another up and down season and look set to continue their stay in the Championship without ever really threatening to make it to the playoffs. Leeds have been struggling for consistency and the manager situation has changed twice this season. Wood and Antenucci are the key men going forward for Leeds and if they get chances then they will take them, Leeds have struggled on the road lately with one win in six and three losses over that period.
Brentford were challenging for the playoff spots early in the season , a recent run of three losses in a row has seen them drop to tenth seven points outside the playoff spots. A win on Tuesday night though would see them climb to ninth and just four points from the playoff spots. This is a solid if unspectacular Brentford team. The team is using a data analytics system to select players and while unconventional personally I think this is the way forward. Data has revelutionised Baseball and American sports in general and it was only a matter of time before someone tried to apply the same logic to football. Matthew Benham's resolve has been tested numerous times since taking ownership of the club but I think the results are there to be studied. Brentford have moved from a midtable Divison one team to a Championship playoff contender in the 6 years Benham has been involved. This is a remarkable achievement and with the Premier League and eternal riches just one step away this is a real story that's worth keeping an eye on.
I'm taking Brentford here, I think home advantage should be enough and confidence gained from a win at the weekend should propel the Bee's to get another here. This is a team that could still make the playoffs but they simply have to win here and continue to pick up points in tough fixtures like this one. Leeds for me are too inconsistant to trust in this situation.
