Cagliari is welcoming Inter in round 2 of Italian Serie A.
Cagliari is the teams that don't have the quality to compete with most of the teams in Serie A and will be in the second half of the league table. In their opening match in Serie A against Brescia, Cagliari was the better team with 58% of ball possession, 4 shots on goal, 8 corner kicks and 79% of correct passes. Cagliari has lost this game 0-1 with a goal from a penalty kick. Nainggolan is Cagliari's best player who came on loan from Inter and will certainly be a great addition to this team. Farago, Cragno, Cacciatore, and Pavoletti are all injured and will not be in the lineup for this match. Rolando Maran was signed as Cagliari's head coach in July of last year and is doing a good job with the team he has and for that reason management felt they don't need to make any changes and have entrusted Maran to stay at the helm. Cagliari is a team that will compete to stay outside relegation zone this season as well and I think they will manage to do that with a few points extra.
Inter has made a lot of changes to their team, starting with a new coach Antonio Conte. In their last game against Lecce, Inter was fantastic with 59% of ball possession, 8 shots on goal, 7 corner kicks and high 90% of correct passes. Inter has won this game 4-0 with some fantastic goals from Brozovic, Sensi, Lukaku, and Candreva. Inter is playing fun, exciting soccer with high ball possession which is completely different from what they were playing for the last couple of year and that is thanks to coach Conte. Diego Godin is the only injured player in Inter's squad who once he is recovered will bring much necessary stability to Inter's defense. Last season Inter ended up 4th in the standings and got qualified to Champions League this season. There is still time for Inter to bring a few more good players and to become strong enough to take down Juventus from the top of Serie A. Inter's best player in their first match was Brozovic, a defensive midfielder who possess great technical skill and physical ability to do a lot of runs up and down the field and if he stays healthy he will be the leader of this new and modern Inter. With Juventus focusing on Champions League, Inter and Napoli will be their main competitors in Serie A, and for now, the only threat to take over the Serie A champion mantle.
Cagliari and Inter have played 43 times since 1993. with Inter winning 22 times, Cagliari 7 times while 14 matches ended up in a draw. Inter is on a 3-game winning streak away from home and is in a much better form than Cagliari. Quality is obviously on Inter's side and for that reason, I'm going to take a stab at Inter.
