In the English Premier League, Chelsea will host Liverpool at Stanford Bridge.
Chelsea were defeated midweek as they lost 1-0 at home to Valencia. It was a poor performance by the Blues as they failed to capitalize on their chances. Chelsea maintained 60% of the possession and had 22 shots but the team failed to score. The team conceded in the 74th minute to concede the points. It has been a modest start to the season for Chelsea and this loss will raise many concerns. Chelsea lack experience and that was evident during the loss to Valencia as the players were unable to withstand the pressure of playing in the Champions League. This is expected to be a very tough match for Chelsea as they are playing against elite opposition in Liverpool.
Looking at Liverpool, the Reds were also beaten in their previous match as they lost 2-0 to Napoli in the Champions League. It was always going to be a tough outing for Liverpool as they were playing in Naples and Napoli are a very strong club. Liverpool conceded both goals in the final 10 minutes which will be hugely disappointing since the team would feel that they deserved points from the match. During the loss, Liverpool had 53% of the ball and 13 shots. It has been an outstanding start to the season for Liverpool as they are top of the Premier League ladder and still maintain a perfect record in the domestic league.
Liverpool and Chelsea played each other 4 times last season. Liverpool and Chelsea both won a single match while 2 games ended as draws. Only 1 head-to-head fixture was played at Stamford Bridge with that match ending as a 1-1 draw.
Chelsea are playing at home and usually, they would be expected to win this fixture. That being said, this Chelsea side looks very weak and I don’t see them having enough quality or experience to compete. Liverpool are a significantly stronger side and I see them being too good for the Blues.
