With Manchester City losing to Burnley on Saturday evening Chelsea have a chance to move further ahead at the top of the table when they host Southampton at the Bridge. Chelsea are looking to bounce back after a disasterous loss to PSG in the Champions League which will have left Jose Mourhino and the rest of his team with a sour taste in their mouth. John Terry leads by example though and is a good captain, he was excellent against PSG throwing himself into every tackle but it seems as if Terry is constantly under pressure as he is covering the mistakes of his team mates, Cahill in particular. Chelsea have such a strong squad and with a midfield of Oscar, Fabregas and Hazard there is an abundance of attacking talent protected by Matic and Ramires playing behind. Diego Costa is a handful in every game and has proven his goal scoring pedigree as he leads he scoring charts this season. The question is will Chelsea be able to recover from their exerts midweek?
Southampton will come into this game with a point to prove. Ronald Koeman's side have been written off all season as a non chance for the top four but every time they have been written off they have come out with a big performance. Southampton have won against Arsenal, Manchester United this year and they will not be phased by going to London to take on Chelsea. Pelle, Mane and Tadic will give Chelsea plenty of problems and Southampton will play a compact tactic to squeeze Chelsea in midfield and force them to play through the width where both Clyne and Bertrand are having excellent seasons.
This one is another of a tough weekend to call. I think Chelsea need a win to gain some confidence after their midweek disaster but I like the way Ronald Koeman has appraoched away games this season and Southampton were desperately unlucky not to get something from their away trips to Tottenham and Arsenal. I think they get some luck that has elduded them in London so far in this game and I am takign Southampton +1 on the handicap as I see the Saints comign away from this game with something.
