Probably the final that the Copa America deserves will take place on Saturday the 4th of July with host nation Chile taking on tournament favourites Argentina. With a plethora of stars from across the different leagues in Europe and the america's this game promises to be an absolute cracker. Having picked Chile to go all the way pre tournament I have to be happy about the hosts making it here where home advantage and a massive home support could be enough to push Chile to victory. Chile captain Claudio Bravo will have the unenviable task of trying to stop Barcelona club team mate Lionel Messi from scoring, a task easier said than done although Messi has not lit this tournament up with his goalscoring, only finding the net once in five games and that was from the penalty spot. Chile have plenty of attacking talent themselves with Arsenal's Alexis Sanchez, Napoli's Vargas and Juventus playmaker Arturo Vidal. This is a chile team who work very hard for each other and really play as a team from 1-11. Chile manager Sampaoli though will realise that the key the teams success doesnt lie with his superstars but rather the player around them and in particular Valdivia who has been Chile best player for the entire tournament and I wouldnt be surprised to see the Palmeiras player move to a europe based club after the tournament.
Argentina are captained by the brilliant Messi but in the semi final the team played as a unit for the first time this tournament. Sergio Aguero (Manchester City) Angel Di Maria (Manchester Unite) Messi and Pastore (PSG) all linked brilliantly and looked almost unstoppable. Di Maria when running at pace at defenders is almost unstoppable and with Aguero and Messi to cross to in the center Argentina have an abundance of attacking talent. In addition to this Mascherano (Barcelona) Rojo (Manchester United) Otamendi (Valencia) provide a tough center to break down and overall this is a really well balanced side. This Argentina squad have been guilty of failing to deliver on the biggest stage but they did reach the World Cup Final last summer and another final here is proof , if anyone needed it, that this is one of the most talented Argentina generations ever.
Really this is a terrific match up with both teams strong and balanced and we have the host nation underdogs Chile against the Argentinian favourites, Argentina have also won all four Copa America's that have been held in Chile and Chile have actually never won a Copa America. There are so many fascinating angles to this one that it is almost impossible to call. However I am taking both teams to score here in what should be a terrific , fast paced game of football. I will have a pick on the winner in the Premium section for those looking for my play on the sides.
