Ecuador will play their second match in the 2019 Copa America against Chile. The match between Chile and Ecuador is set to be played at the Fonte Nova Arena in Salvador.

Ecuador suffered an embarrassing defeat in the opening round as they lost 4-0 to Uruguay. It was a tragic display by Ecuador as they allowed Uruguay to score in the 4th minute of the match. Jose Quinteros was sent off in the 24th minute and that ended any chance Ecuador had of competing against Uruguay. During the defeat, Ecuador only had 38% of the ball and it was largely due to their poor passing. Ecuador's pass accuracy was only 75%. Ecuador only managed 2 shots in the entire game which indicates the team’s terrible performance. Ecuador didn’t manage to win a single warm-up game and this team looks very low on confidence. Chile will be a big challenge and it is hard to see how Ecuador will turn their form around to compete.

In contrast, Chile were incredible in their opening match as they defeated Japan 4-0. There were many questions around the form of this team but Chile have silenced many critics with the win. Eduardo Vargas was outstanding as the striker scored 2 goals. Chile will also be pleased by the performance of Alexis Sanchez. Sanchez had a poor season with Manchester United but the winger looked very impressive during the win. Alexis Sanchez scored the third goal of the game. The Chilean defense was not tested during the win but they looked compact on the odd occasion when Japan attacked. Chile are the reigning champions and they have an outstanding record at this tournament. Considering the history of the nation at this event, Chile will always be a force.

Prior to the start of this tournament, I would have given Ecuador a chance but following the opening round, my opinion has changed. Ecuador were terrible against Uruguay and the team lacks the quality to compete in this tournament. Chile, on the other hand, showed that they still have the players and desire to do well in this tournament. Chile were outstanding against Japan and I see them winning this match also since they look too strong for Ecuador.
