Columbus Crew SC and Montreal Impact meet Saturday night at the MAPFRE Stadium.
Columbus Crew SC could use a nice victory here after a rocky 2-4-2 start to the season. Columbus Crew SC continues to struggle on the offensive end with just seven goals in eight matches, which includes a shutout loss last Saturday to Seattle. Defensively, Columbus Crew SC has been able to hold its own but the offense must improve if wins are going to start picking up. Kei Kamara leads Columbus with three goals, Justin Meram has two assists and Ethan Finlay has 14 shots. Defensively, Steve Clark has come away with 28 saves on 38 shots faced. Columbus Crew SC have earned points in seven of their last 10 home games.
The Montreal Impact look to build on their lead in the Eastern Conference after a 4-3-2 start to the season. The Impact are relying on an offense that’s scored three goals in their last two matches and has five players with double-digit shot attempts. The Montreal Impact have scored at least two goals in five of their last nine matches and have an aggressive offense. Ignacio Piatti leads Montreal with four goals, Harry Shipp has three assists and Didier Drogba has 20 shots. Defensively, Evan Bush has come away with 29 saves on 41 shots faced. The Montreal Impact have earned points in five of their last seven road games.
Montreal has owned Columbus over the last five matches with four victories during that span, including a 2-0 win last month. Columbus only win in the last five contests was last November. Four of the last five meetings have produced at least three goals.
Columbus is a very good home team, but the clear value here is with Montreal and the huge plus money. Montreal has already beaten Columbus this season and has won four of the last five matches. I’ll take my chances here given the value.
