Copa America 2019: Soccer Betting Odds and Team Previews

The Copa America is set to commence on June 15 in Brazil. Playing at home, Brazil are the favorites to lift the trophy but the like of Argentina, Chile, Uruguay, and Colombia are all expected to challenge for the title. Two invited nations from Asia, Qatar and Japan, will also play in this tournament and these teams are likely to have an impact on the event.
This tournament will be played across 6 different venues. The tournament will be opened at the Estádio do Morumbi in Sao Paulo and the final will be played at the Maracanã Stadium in Rio de Janeiro.
There will be 12 teams in the 2019 Copa America. The 12 nations have been divided into 3 groups. The top 2 teams from each side gain automatic entry into the quarterfinals. The final spots in the quarterfinals will be filled by the two third-placed teams with the most group stage points.
With anticipation building for this tournament, here is a closer look at the major competitors for the Copa America title.
Brazil are always a major contender in any football event. The big news from the Brazilian camp is the injury to Neymar. Neymar suffered another major injury which means the PSG superstar will not play a part in this tournament. While losing Neymar is a massive loss for the Brazilian side, there is plenty of exceptional attacking players who can lead the team. Roberto Firmino has had an exceptional season at Liverpool having scored 16 times in major competitions for the Reds. Gabriel Jesus, Willian, and Coutinho are also very strong attacking options for Brazil. The Brazilian midfielder will be led by Casimiro and Alan who are both very accomplished players. In defence, Brazil have the options of Thiago Silva and Miranda who are both very accomplished. Ederson and Alison are the two goalkeepers available to Brazil. This is a very well balanced Brazil team and they will be confident in their ability to win the title.

Argentina are the second favorites to win this trophy. This is a big tournament for the Argentinian side as they will look to salvage pride following a horrible 2018 FIFA World Cup. Leo Messi will be the leader for Argentina and this may be the Barcelona superstars best chance to win an international title. Messi scored over 50 goals last season and is in supreme form as he heads into this event. Unfortunately for Argentina, the team is lacking in the midfield and defense. The likes of Tagliafico and Otamendi have not been playing well and the lack of quality in these positions are likely to cost this team. Argentina have an easy group but I see them struggling against teams like Brazil, Colombia, and Uruguay.

Luis Suarez will hope that he can lead his side to a title victory. Suarez has been very good over the past season and he enters this tournament having scored 21 goals in La Liga in 2018/2019. Suarez will be accompanied by Edinson Cavani. Cavani and Suarez formed a strong partnership at the 2018 World Cup and it is likely that they will perform well as a unit again. The defense is also well structured for Uruguay as Diego Godin and Jose Gimenez will add great stability and control. Uruguay are lacking in the midfield but considering the teams attacking and defensive strength, they should have a good chance of winning this title.

Colombia have a very talented group of players but it is important to note that this team is not on the same level as the side that performed exceptionally well at the World Cup. Radamel Falcao is 33 and the superstar striker is not performing at the level he once played at. James Rodriguez has also been very quiet over the past season as he plays his football at Bayern Munich. Colombia have done well at the last few major tournaments but if they are to win this title, the likes of James and Falcao must rediscover their form.
Copa America betting odds for Colombia to win title: +800
Chile are the reigning Copa America champions but this team is much weaker than the team that won the title. Arturo Vidal is well past his peak as the midfielder has lost his starting spot at club level. Alexis Sanchez has also been playing very poorly as the Manchester United winger had a nightmare season at Old Trafford. With age and form against this Chile side, I find it unlikely that they will defend their title.
