Live from Houston on Saturday one of the tournament dark horses Costa Rica take on an El Salvador team that stiffled Canada in the first game of the group stages. Costa Rica led by Sporting Lisbon's new striker Bryan Ruiz will be looking for a win here to get them back on track for a place in the quarter finals. Arsenals young striker Joel Campbell has struggled at club level but contines to impress at International level. Costa Rica are one of those teams that can be exceptional on one day and sloppy the next. I think Costa Rica though did hugely improve for their strong World Cup last summer.
El Salvador are rank outsiders for this game. La Selecta started the tournament with a draw against Canada and they proved in that opening game that they are well organised and are a defend first team. El Salvador dont have many players that would get into the Costa Rica team but the quality they do have is across the midfield and back. Up front Bonilla and Alvarez will be the main threats to Costa Rica but I cant see them causing too many problems for a really solid Costa Rica team.
At 1/2 there isnt much value in taking Costa Rica straight up. Instead I am going to take Costa Rica to score 2 or more at 11/10. Ruiz and Campbell will get at the back of El Salvador and where Canada lacked the quality to finish off the chances created Costa Rica will not pass up those opportunites.
