PSG continue their pursuit of a sixth consecutive Coupe de France final when they face Dijon in at Stade Gaston Gerard on Wednesday. Who will come out on top in this quarter-final clash?
Dijon beat Ligue 2 side Valenciennes 2-1 in their first Coupe de France game of the season, setting up a Round of 32 tie with fellow top-flight team Nimes. Jhonder Cadiz gave Dijon the lead against Nimes before four goals in the final 15 minutes saw Stephane Jobard’s side complete a convincing 5-0 win. Stephy Mavididi’s late extra-time goal in the previous round ensured Dijon survived a scare against Limonest to advance into the last eight.
Dijon come into this game on the back of a thrilling 3-3 draw with Nantes. Despite scoring in the 90th minute to go ahead, Dijon threw away their lead to remain just outside the relegation zone in Ligue 1. Jobard’s men have only managed to win six of their 24 league games this term, while only bottom club Toulouse have scored fewer goals than Dijon in the division. Still, Dijon boast the best defensive record of all the teams in the bottom eight.
PSG thrashed Linas-Montlhery 6-0 in their opening game of the campaign as Edinson Cavani and Pablo Sarabia both netted a brace. Thomas Tuchel’s side then edged past Lorient in the Round of 32 by scoring late on to overcome the Ligue 2 outfit. In the previous round, PSG cruised past third-tier side Pau 2-0 to book their place in the quarter-finals of the Coupe de France – Sarabia scoring in his third consecutive cup match.
As expected, PSG are once again running away in Ligue 1 this season and currently sit 12 points clear of second-place Marseille. Tuchel’s men beat Lyon 4-2 in their previous outing to take their tally of league goals to 63 for the campaign – 30 more than Marseille. PSG have also conceded just 17 goals in 24 league games this term and come into this game on the back of eight straight victories in all competitions.
Prediction and Pick
With 37 points currently separating league leaders PSG and relegation strugglers Dijon in Ligue 1, it’s no surprise that Dijon are the huge underdogs at 8.50 to win this matchup. By contrast, the PSG win is at 1.25. However, PSG possess a frightening array of attacking talent, so I can see the club from the capital winning this quarter-final with ease. You can significantly enhance your odds by adding the over 2.5 goals market to the PSG win here.
