English Championship: Best Bets – Round 30 – Odds, Predictions, and Picks
Wednesday, January 29, 2020 at 10:22 PM (England)
I’m backing Nottingham Forest to continue their push for promotion by beating a struggling Birmingham side this weekend. Stoke have the potential to secure another away win at Derby, while Preston and Millwall look set for a tight contest at Deepdale.
Here are the best bets for the upcoming round of Championship fixtures.
Derby County vs. Stoke City – 1/31/20
Derby and Stoke kick off the weekend’s Championship action on Friday night. Stoke will be looking to continue their climb up the table with another positive result, while Derby will be eager to bounce back after suffering defeat to bottom side Luton Town last time out. Stoke are currently six points behind Derby, but an unbeaten run of four games – three wins and one draw – has seen them steer clear of the relegation zone. I’m backing Stoke to extend their unbeaten run by beating an out-of-form Derby side at the iPro Stadium.
Pick: Stoke City to Win – 2.70
Preston North End vs. Millwall – 2/1/20
Seventh-place Preston host eighth-place Millwall on Saturday with just one point separating the two teams in the table. Preston come into this game on the back of consecutive victories, while Swansea were beaten by Stoke in their previous game. The Welsh side have struggled to score goals this season. However, their defensive record is one of the best in the division. Preston haven’t been involved in many high-scoring games recently, either. For that reason, I don’t think this matchup will produce too many goals. Under 2.5 goals seems like the best bet here.
Pick: Under 2.5 Goals – 1.80
Birmingham City vs. Nottingham Forest – 2/1/20
Remarkably, the bookies have Birmingham as the favorites to win this tie at 2.60, but this simply doesn’t make sense to me. Their home advantage clearly plays a part in that price, but Forest are just four points off the top of the table. Forest are unbeaten in their last seven outings – winning five and drawing two. By contrast, Birmingham are down in eighteenth place after losing their previous two games. I don’t think this will be a massive away win, but I can see Forest edging past Birmingham to claim all three points.
Pick: Nottingham Forest to Win – 2.80
