Barcelona is welcoming Espanyol in round 29 of Spanish LaLiga.
Barcelona is the best team in Spain and are playing the best soccer in Europe at the moment. Barcelona has been dominating for years in Spain and are once again at the top of the standings with 66 points, 10 more then Atletico Madrid and 12 more then Real Madrid. Lionel Messi is the best player in the world and is the leader and top goal scorer of this Barcelona team with 29 goals and 12 assists in 26 matches, absolutely unreal stats but he is doing it like its nothing. Coach Valverde was signed back in July 2017 and since then has done amazing job in Barcelona and both players and fans are loving his work. Barcelona haven’t lost any of their last 13 games and have done it with style by scoring 34 goals during this stretch. In their last game against Betis, Barcelona didn’t control the possession which is very unusual for them but despite that Barcelona still managed to have 9 shots on goal, 7 corner kicks and 87% ball possession and have won that game 1-4 with Messi scoring hat trick. Barcelona is at the top of LaLiga standings and have qualified to Champions League quarterfinals and will want to keep winning to stay in good form before Champions League continues in 2 weeks.
Espanyol is a solid team who doesn’t have enough quality this season to be higher then 13th place they are on at the moment. Espanyol’s biggest problem is their defense and were unable to keep the ball out of the net since the beginning of the season and have conceded 41 goal so far. In their last game against Sevilla, Espanyol were playing decent soccer in an even match where they had 50% ball possession, 3 shots on goal and only 78% of correct passes but were not able to score a goal and have lost 0-1. Iglesias is Espanyol’s top goal scorer with 11 goals while Melendo added 4 assists. Duarte, Piatti, Lopez and Ferreyra and injured while Darder is suspended because of yellow cards. Even though Espanyol have lost only 1 of their last 6 games, fans are not happy and coach Rubi will need to do everything he can to improve his team on the defensive end and stay as far as possible of relegation zone. Espanyol is capable of creating chances and scoring goals to any team but are also capable of making a lot of mistakes on the defensive end even against weaker teams and that is the main reason why Espanyol isn’t higher in the standings.
In last match between these two teams, Barcelona has won 0-4 and Espanyol have won only 2 games against Barcelona since 2009. I’m expecting Barcelona to start with their strongest lineup and because Barcelona is much better team, I’m not giving a lot of chances to Espanyol.
