Barcelona is welcoming Villareal in a derby match of round 6 of Spanish LaLiga.
Barcelona is a really good team overall. Solid defense, once of the best goalkeepers in the world, strong midfield and atomic attack led by Messi. The problem for Barcelona is that every single player on the team is not in good form and Barcelona is struggling in every aspect of the game. With 2 wins, 1 draw and 2 losses, Barcelona is having the worst LaLiga start in the last 25 years. In their last match against Granada, Barcelona was a huge favorite because Messi was finally back and everyone was expecting Barcelona's explosion, but the opposite happened. If we put aside high 74% of ball possession, Barcelona was sloppy and slow and had only 1 shot on goal and has lost this match 2-0. Immediately after the match ended fans and reporters have started pointing fingers for this failure. Some said it's coach Valverde's fault, some said it's Messi's fault, or Rakitic's or Griezman's fault but a lot of them agreed that most fault lies with Barcelona's management and their transfer policy and poor management skills. Barcelona's top goal scorers are Suarez, Griezman, and Fati with 2 goals each. Alba and Umtiti are both injured while Dembele is still questionable. When Barcelona is in good form and is playing their soccer style with high possession, fast, short passes and high pressure when not in the possession of the ball, Barcelona is unstoppable and coach Valverde has to do everything to boost his players spirits and get them back on winning track. Morale and state of Barcelona's squad are not ideal but I think that Barcelona is too experienced and too good of a team for this to last and I expect them to show us what they are capable of starting from this match.
Villareal has been solid on the start of this season. With 2 wins, 2 draws and only 1 loss Villareal is holding 7th place with 12 scored goals and 8 conceded goals. In their last match against Valladolid, Villareal was great with 60% of ball possession, 6 shots on goal, 4 corner kicks and 88% of correct passes and has won this game 2-0 with 2 late goals. Gerard Moreno has already scored 5 goals for Villareal while their captain Cazorla added 2 goals and 2 assists. Alberto Moreno and Soriano are both injured and will not be playing in this match. Villareal was struggling defensively whole last season and nothing they did was improving the situation but this season they were able to get a grip and worked hard I the preseason and the result is this good form and great soccer. Villareal has scored the most goals alongside Barcelona in this early stage of LaLiga and if they manage to stay healthy, Villareal will be one of the most efficient teams in Spain. Last season Villareal has ended up 14th in the standings and managed to stay outside the relegation zone with a few good results at the end of the season, but this season I expect Villareal to be in the top 10, and even close to a Europa League spot because frankly, they deserve it.
When Barcelona and Villareal meet there are usually plenty of goal chances and scored goals. Even though I think Villareal is a great team, I see Barcelona bouncing back from that unfortunate loss against Granada and at least 4 scored goals combined.
