Bayern Munich is welcoming Wolfsburg in a derby match of round 25 of German Bundesliga.
Bayern is playing really well at the moment and are on a 6-game streak without a loss. Last week, Bayern have beaten Borussia M’gladbach in a match that was pure show of power from Bayern who completely dominated with 63% ball possession, 14 shots on goal, 9 corner kicks and stunning 92% of correct passes and 5 scored goals. This victory meant a lot to entire Bayern team because they finally caught up to Borussia Dortmund at the top of the standings. Levandowski leads Bayern with 15 goals while Kimmich added 10 assists. Tolisso, Robben and Coman are injured and will not play this game. Bayern is top team in Germany and are playing some of the most enjoyable soccer with lots of passes and created chances and their defense has been up to the task in last few weeks and that is the main reason they were able to catch up to Borussia Dortmund. Bayern is playing second leg of Champions League quarterfinals against Liverpool and because of that coach Kovac is expected to give a break to some players to keep them fresh for this match but I don’t think Bayern will risk losing this game now when they have the opportunity take over the top of the table.
Wolfsburg had a rocky start of the season and were playing bad on both ends but little by little their form was improving and are now holding 7thplace in the standings with only 4 points away from Champions League spot. Wolfsburg is a young team full of potential with great players like Weghorst who is Wolfsburg’s top goal scorer with 9 goals and Arnold and Brekalo who are playing in a really good form and could do great things next season if the manage to keep these players. Camacho, Azzaoui and Ginczek are injured and will not play this game. In their last match against Werder, Wolfsburg controlled the game with 58% ball possession, 5 shots on goal and 82% of correct passes but were able to score only 1 goal which was enough for a tie. Wolfsburg is on a 4-game streak without a loss and have scored 10 goals during that period. Wolfsburg’s game style is nice to watch, with a lot of plays going through their wingers and crossing the ball into the box and steady defense they are capable of making every teams lives hard especially now when Champions League is within their grasp.
Head to head Bayern hasn’t lost any of the last 9 games against Wolfsburg and Wolfsburg has conceded at least 1 goal in last 20 matches against Bayern. Last 6 matches have produced a total of 22 goals which is average of more then 3 goals per game and because Bayern might rest some players and both teams need a win here, I’m expecting open game full of chances and goals.
