One of the games of the week in the UEFA Champions League qualifiers will see Fenerbahce take on Shakthar Donetsk. One of these well established sides will not be in the draw for the next round and this will be a blow to the club in question. Fenerbahce have put together an incredible side in the last couple of months with big name transfers coming in former Manchester United players Nani and Robin Van Persie have arrived along with Diego and Kjaer. Add in Fernandao and there is a serious side being built here in Turkey. Fenerbahce were impressive in beating Marseille last week and with Sow, Fernandao and Van Persie there is a quality front three.
Shakthar Donetsk will be looking to rebuild after losing Adriano, Fernando and Douglas Costa this summer. The Ukranian side finished ten points behind Dynamov Kiev last year and losing three of their core players is not going to help the case for closing that gap. There is still alot of quality in this Shakthar side though with Teixera, Eduardo, Bernard and Fred the key players who will need to step up and be the main stays for Shakhtar this season.
This one should be a cracking game. While Fenerbahce are deserved favourites both teams have ample European experience and the fact that one of these will miss out on a place in the Group stages i a pity for the competition as a whole. For me though with home advantage I will be taking Fenerbahce to get a win Tuesday night in what should be a really entertaining game.
