Fiorentina is starting this season of Italian Serie A by hosting Napoli.
Fiorentina was a complete and utter mess last season and has barely escaped relegation zone by only 3 points. Fiorentina ended up in 16th spot in the standings with 41 points. Despite having a great, young team Fiorentina ended last season with only 8 wins, 17 draws and 13 loses. Fiorentina's young stars like Chiesa, Simeone, Benassi, and Milenkovic are now a year older and experienced and will be the pillars of Fiorentina this season. In the preseason period, Fiorentina has played 6 games and has won 4, while losing the other two against Benfica and Arsenal. Vincenzo Montella was signed as Fiorentina's head coach back in April of this year and he is one of the main reasons why Fiorentina escaped the relegation zone. Montella brought a new dimension to this young Fiorentina's squad and with him at the helm, Fiorentina has a good shot at returning to the top 10 teams in Serie A. Fiorentina has made a few notable signings this summer which will certainly help them in the long run and players they signed are their former captain Milan Badelj, french legend Franck Ribery, Kevin Prince Boateng, and Luis Muriel came on loan. Fiorentina was playing solid soccer last season and was pretty consistent on the offensive end, but their biggest problem was defense who was unable to defend and keep the ball out of their net. Fiorentina is too good of a team to be that low in the standings and I believe they will show us this season that they are capable of more.
Napoli is the only team in Italy that was able to threaten Juventus, up until a certain point and they still ended 11 points behind Juventus. Napoli is playing one of the most entertaining and enjoyable soccer in Italy, I dare to say the best soccer in Italy. A steady defense led by Koulibaly, compact midfield with Allan, Ruiz and Zielinski and super strong attack with Insigne, Milik, and Mertens. Carlo Ancelotti is one of the best coaches in history of this game and it's been a head coach in Napoli since July of 2018., and with him on the bench, fans and management believe that Napoli can finally get to the top of Serie A. In the preseason, Napoli has played 7 games and has won 3, lost 3 while 1 match ended up in a draw. Napoli has sold their captain Marek Hamsik to Dalian in China for 20 million euros and brought a few young potential stars to their team. There are no injuries or suspensions in Napoli's squad so coach Ancelotti will have all of his players at his disposal. Napoli is getting better with every season and for a few seasons they were the biggest threat to Juventus, but this season both Inter and Milan have made some massive changes and improvements in their clubs and for that reason I expect a tight battle this season, especially if Juventus will focus more on winning the Champions League.
When playing at home, Fiorentina has not lost to Napoli in their last 4 games. It's hard to make any predictions in the first match of the season but with everything I saw from this teams in the preseason I expect goals because both teams are in good offensive form but still a bit shaky on defense.
