On thursday one of the match ups of the night will come from Florence where Fiorentina play host to high flying Tottenham Hotspur. Tottenham are in second place in the Premier League and after a win against Manchester City last weekend will be in confident mood going to Italy. There is a question mark now though over whether Tottenham will take the Europa League competition seriously. Manuel Pochettino is the type of manager who wants to win every competition but he is also a pragmatist and must realise the toll on his players is going to be quite tough playing in the League, Europa League and FA Cup. My gut feeling is that we see some sort of a hybrid team on Thursday night with some players rested, luckily for Tottenham this weekend is FA Cup weekend probably the least important comeptition for Spurs. Erikson and Kane may well get a rest on Thursday night but Lamela, Chadli, Carroll will probably all get much needed game time. Lamela was an instigator in Sunday's win playing the vital through ball for the winner and he has been a key piece for Tottenham this season, he would do with a few more minutes on the pitch and I think he will relish the opportunity.
Fiorentina are in a battle for third in Serie A right now with a number of teams snapping at their heels, La Viola have been going through something of a rough patch since Christmas but at home they have still be a formidable team. Fiorentina have won four of their last five at home and are unbeaten in their last five overall. Babacar came on and scored an injury time winner against top 3 rival Inter Milan on Sunday a much needed and vital win for Fiorentina. The team is quite solid with Valero, Illicic and Kalinic all providing both experience and goals the later two the top scorers in the side this season. Surprisingly Fiorentina let Guiseppi Rossi leave on a loan deal in January, the former Manchester United striker seemed to be coming good again after his injury worries but perhaps Fiorentina just couldnt wait to see if he would come back to his best.
This one looks a really great match up on paper and I really like the look of both teams to score. I think Fiorentina might nick this one at home but with this Tottenham team I wouldnt rule them out. I'm going to take both teams to score here and this will be one I will be watching as it should be a great game of football.
