France is welcoming Iceland in round 2 of Euro Cup qualifications.
France is probably the best national team in the world at the moment with good and steady defense led by Varane and Umtiti, super strong midfield with players like Pogba, Kante and Fekir and atomic offense led by Griezman and Mbappe. In their last game against Moldova, France was fantastic with 68% ball possession, 10 shots on goal and staggering 91% of correct passes and won that game 1-4. France is a top favorite to win Euro Cup and certainly are playing well enough to be champions once again. France has lost only 2 games since June of 2016 and are currently ranked as number 2 in FIFA standings behind Belgium. French roster is filled with superstars that are key players in their clubs and are all healthy and ready to play so coach Deschamps only worry is who to put in starting lineup and who ever is playing, this French team is capable of beating anyone in the world.
Iceland is pretty good team whose biggest success was the quarterfinals in 2016 quarterfinals which they lost against France 5-2. In last year’s World Cup, Iceland was in a group with Croatia, Argentina and Nigeria and have won only 1 point in a 1-1 draw against Argentina. Iceland’s best player is Sigurdsson who is playing for Everton and is expected be in starting lineup in this match. In their last game against Andorra, Iceland was much better team with 76% ball possession, 4 shots on goal and 85% of correct passes and ended up winning this game 0-2 which gave both players and staff more confidence coming into this match against France. Iceland has been showing steady signs of improvement for years now thanks to huge investments in youth soccer and in building new facilities on Iceland and because of that some young players like Arnor Sigurdsson and Albert Gudmundsson have come to the spotlight. Iceland’s game style depends on who are they playing against because against weaker teams they are dominating with lots of possession and created chances when against stronger teams are more focused on defending and waiting on their opportunities from counter attacks.
France is showing us impressive soccer at the moment and it seems they can’t lose, and games between these two teams usually produce a lot of goals and I don’t see Iceland doing any damage to France in this game.
