Germany take on Australia on Wednesday in a glamour friendly for the Aussies. Australia are the newly crowned Asian Cup Champions and they will look to test themselves against the World Champions Germany at the Fritz Walter Stadion in Kaiserslauten. Australia come into this game without the injured Tim Cahill, the ex Everton striker has long been the talisman for Australia and will be missed on Wednesday as they come up against a Germany team that have struggled a little since winning the World Cup. Australia will be backboned by Jedinak, Leckie and McCay. Crystal Palace's holding midfielder Jedinak will probably be the key figure for Australia as he looks to protect the back four and stop Goetze and Reus getting on the ball in space.
Germany's squad is even stronger now than the one that won the World Cup with a fit Marco Reus back in the mix. There is only one player thirty or over in the entire squad something that should probably worry the rest of Europe. Joachim Lowe's side though have struggled in recent games only taking a point from their home game with the Republic of Ireland and losing to Poland in two of their four qualifiers. Germany have such a strong team though that I think they will still win the group and Lowe has brought such a strong squad to this game that I think they will have far too much firepower for Australia. With Muller, Podolski, Reus, Goetze Germany should win this one comfortably.
Taking Germany -2 here as I see the Germans running out convincing winners. Australia have improved in recent years but the missing Cahill will be a big loss. Although his goalscoring hasnt been prolific of late his all round play is a step above anyone Australia have to replace him with. As with all friendlies I wont be playing this heavy but just for interest
