Germany is hosting Serbia in an international friendly match in Germany.
German coach Joachim Low has made quite a few changes to his roster and Germany is heading into this international cycle without some seasoned players like Hummels, Mullers, Boateng, Khedira, Gundogan and with some young rising stars like Sane, Havertz, Sule, Ginter and Gnarby who are all some of the key players in their clubs. Because of all these changes German defense will be shaky and the team will lack some chemistry and confidence but these friendly matches are just the right place to make that happened. In last years World Cup in Russia, Germany was a disappointment and have had only 1 win alongside 2 losses and hasn’t even advanced from group stage even though they had quality for so much more. In UEFA Nations League competition that started in October last year, Germany was in a group with Netherlands and France and ended up last with 2 losses and 2 draws and only 3 scored goals and 7 conceded goals. That was the time when the alarm went off and it was time for some changes that are happening during this international break and I think it’s a good thing for Germany to go through these changes rather sooner than later and I expect for Germany to be close to the top soon again.
Serbia is coming into this break in far better mood then Germany. The World Cup in Russia was a second World Cup competition for Serbia as a single country and they ended up third in their group behind Switzerland and Brazil and did not advance past group stage. Serbia played some good soccer in the World Cup and with a little bit more focus they could have gone further but given that Serbia went to Russia with low expectations both players and fans were satisfied. In Nations Leagues Serbia is playing in League C, group 4 Romania, Montenegro and Lithuania and are at the top with 14 points and 11 scored goals in 6 games. Serbia has some great players like Matic, Tadic, Milenkovic-Savic, Kolarov and Luka Jovic who is one of the top goal scorers in German Bundesliga. This Serbian team has been playing together for a while now and are playing attacking soccer and in their last game against Lithuania, Serbia had 73% ball possession, 5 shots on goal and have won that game 4-1. The only problem for coach Krstajic is which player to put in starting lineup because most of the players are playing in great form for their clubs and are eager to prove themselves to their coach.
Because this is a friendly game and Germany has made a lot of changes to their roster, especially on the defensive end and Serbia is playing really good soccer I’m going to pick something on goals here.
