Germany will begin their Euro 2016 campaign against Ukraine in what will be a test for the current World Cup winners. A lot is expected from Low and his men and good start will be important for the team to gain some momentum. Ukraine on the other hand will feel as if they can make it out of this group and although a win for them in this game is not essential, any point will surely help the cause.
Germany have lost quite a few big players since their success at Brazil, the most notable being Philip Lahm. This time around they will have to do it without him and to make matters worse, Bastian Schweinsteiger is terribly out of form while Reus and Gundogan are out injured. These casualties will hamper this side later in the tournament but against Ukraine, I think they have more than enough talent.
Ukraine will play a tight game in my opinion a low scoring result is very likely. This Ukrainians are a very good side defensively and very rarely concede more than 2 goals. Although it will be tough to get a win or a draw I don’t see Ukraine getting smashed especially since they will know that goal difference is important in this tournament.
As far as betting is concerned, I don’t think betting on Germany to win outright has a lot of value attached to it simply since the odds are way too short. That being said we can always bet on the goal line and the under 2.5 goals is a very good bet here. As mentioned, Ukraine are really strong defensively and a 1-0 or 2-0 win to Germany is the most likely outcome so we can get quite a bit of value by taking the under.
